Breast Cancer:
World Health Organisation (W.H.O) has formulated some Techniques which should be followed by all Females after attaining puberty namely - every Woman should examine her breast twice in a month to see the following:

  • While standing in front of a mirror with two hands raised above the head, the two Nipples should be in the same horizontal line. If any one of them is above this line, there may be a risk of Cancer on that side.
  • Any Tumour any where in the breast – felt during palpation.
  • Whether the skin over the Tumour is fixed or movable.
  • Any change of colour of the skin of the breast at a particular area.
  • Any Tumour in the axillae, neck, groin etc.
  • Any blood discharge through Nipple.
  • Any non-healing Ulcer in the breast.
  • Whether the skin over the breast looks like Orange-Peel.
  • Whether the breast can be moved from side to side.
  • Whether pain, redness occurs in the breast.

    If any of the above symptoms appear in any time the woman should report to a Cancer Specialist immediately.

    Blood Cancer:
    Commonly occurs in the children of 2-10 years of age. The mother will notice any of the sudden changes in the child, namely:
  • Unexplained Anaemia
  • The child looses interest in games, food and day to day activities.
  • Occasional bleeding occurs from Gum, Nose, etc.
  • The child becomes drowsy.

    Whenever these symptoms appear, the child should be taken to any Paediatrician for blood examination.

    Retinoblastoma (i.e. Cancer of the Retina of the eye).
    This Cancer commonly occurs in Children. In this Cancer the child is found to have, white patch in the eye like cat’s eye. So, if the parents notice this sort of change in the eye, then atonce they should take the child to the eye specialist.

Lung Cancer
The symptoms of Lung Cancer Patient looks exactly like Lung T.B. patient i.e. Fever, Loss of Weight, Cough, Blood stained Sputum. So, most of the lung Cancer Patients get the treatment of T.B. first, and then they come to the cancer specialist. Hence any patient having symptoms mentioned above must be examined by a Cancer Specialist also.


Tongue Cancer
A very common Cancer in the Oral Cavity. It usually occurs in the lateral side of the Tongue. The patients usually have dental problem which causes Tongue Cancer. So any patients having pain, ulceration in the tongue with ill fitted denture, should consult Surgeon immediately. Tongue Cancer usually occures in Tobacco chewers. So any form of Tobacco usage should be stopped to prevent this type of Cancer.
