the Kitchen
-
Prevent clutter on the sink! Place a small shelf above
the sink faucet to hold all washing liquids and sponge
racks.
- To eliminate odors in the house, boil water, an apple
and some cinnamon in a pot. Leave on stovetop until
ready to throw out. The aroma should fill the house
with a pleasant smell.
- To get the onion or garlic smell off your hands just
rub your hands on your stainless steel sink or simply
rub a metal spoon all over your hands under water.
- Alternatively to get rid of the smell of garlic off
of your hands, rub with lemon or tomatoes, and try coffee
grounds after that if the smell is not gone. Try baking
powder before washing them.
- Using small pins, attach elastic to both ends on the
side of a drawer. Tuck the bottles inside the elastic.
They will not tip over and are easy to remove.
- To make sinks sparkle, spread a layer of paper towels
to cover it and saturate with household bleach. Remove
after 5 minutes and rinse well before use.
- Wipe out microwaves and all ovens once they have cooled
down. If this is done after each use, the drippings
will not burn and set on the chrome.
- To deodorize refrigerators, place a bag of charcoal
in it overnight.
- Wipe all non-metallic parts of the fridge with diluted
baking soda to banish odors.
- To wash delicate glassware in the sink, line it with
an old towel. This will prevent slips and chips when
washing.
- Slide in glassware in water for washing but never
immerse it straight.
- Cut through grease on all sorts of material by dipping
it in diluted vinegar.
- Always wear rubber gloves when washing dishes. This
protects hands from abrasive cleaners and hot water.
- Plant mint near windows to keep ants at bay, or sprinkle
dried mint to get rid of them fast.
- Mix equal parts of cocoa powder, flour and laundry
borax or baking soda and confectioner's sugar to get
rid of roach infestation.
